Theory: Camphor is a ketone, obtained from Cinnamomumcamphora. It is colorless or white crystal granules or crystalline masses. It is highly volatile in nature at room temperature and readily burns with a bright smoky flame. It is soluble in 800 parts of water and 1 part of ethanol in the preparation of aromatic water ethanol acts as distributing agent. Water cannot be added in alcoholic solution of camphor because if whole camphor is precipitated then it becomes difficult to re-dissolved it by shaking the solution.
Procedure:
· All the apparatus were thoroughly washed and dried.
· All the ingredients were weighed accurately.
· Required quantity of camphor was dissolved with ethanol and the resulting solution was added in purified water in a conical flask by vigorous shaking.
· Shaking was continued until the camphor was dissolved.
· Then filtered solution transferred in a clean tightly closed container with proper labeling.
